A memory (Japanese: 思い出 memory) is a characteristic in the core sequence Pokémon games launched in Technology VI that describes a Pokémon's experiences with its current Trainer and unique Trainer. To verify a Pokémon's recollections, the player can take it to an NPC who can read a Pokémon's reminiscences. A Pokémon could be selected from either the get together or the Pokémon Storage System. Eggs can't be selected. The memories of Pokémon range from assembly the Trainer for the first time, defeating wild Pokémon or Gym Leaders, using HM strikes exterior of battle, exploring various areas, evolving, and many others. A Pokémon's memory could change over time because it has new experiences with its Coach. If the Bulbasaur is then returned to its original Trainer, it would retain its memory from the earlier Trainer, nevertheless it won't remember this Coach if traded to a third Trainer. They should still make new reminiscences with their current Coach, however.

Pokémon who have a memory unique to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will also show this message in Pokémon X and Y; the memory will likely be displayed again when transferred to a later recreation. In Pokémon X and Y, the Memory Woman (Japanese: 思い出娘 Memory Girl) stands outside the Pokémon Center in Anistar Metropolis, and has the appearance of a Furisode Girl. In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the Memory Woman (Japanese: おもいでむすめ Memory Wave Program Woman) stands exterior the Pokémon Center in Lilycove Metropolis, Memory Wave and has the looks of a young lady. In Pokémon Sword and Shield, Jack might be present in any Pokémon Middle, and has the looks of a Café Master. He features the ability to verify memories after at least three Badges have been obtained. Memories cannot be checked within the Technology VII and IX video games. A Pokémon may have two sets of recollections if it has been traded. If that is the case, then the Pokémon's reminiscences with its current Coach shall be second; if the current Trainer is also the Pokémon's original Coach, then the first memory shall be from its earlier owner, in any other case they are going to be from the Pokémon's unique Coach.

A Pokémon's memories are stored across ten bytes in the Pokémon knowledge construction, with reminiscences with the current Coach and the unique Trainer occupying 5 bytes every. Of these five bytes, the index numbers of the memory, its rank, and its feeling occupy one byte every, whereas the remaining two bytes retailer variable data. All memories finish with the textual costance, a Terrakion with a memory of being caught on the Pathless Plain would display in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire as being caught at "a tiny island", but this memory would display as being caught "in a Secret Base" as soon as transferred to Sword and Shield. The placement memory for Azure Bay and Hoenn water routes is 水道 suidō within the Japanese model, which could be translated as either "water route" or "water supply". This ambiguity induced it to be mistranslated in English, German, and French variations of Pokémon X and Y as "a sewer", and retranslated in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire as "a watery route". In Spanish, it was mistranslated as "unas alcantarillas" (a sewer) and stays unchanged in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire and Pokémon Sword and Shield. In Italian, it was originally translated as "in un canale" (in a channel) and was retranslated as "in una via d'acqua" (in a waterway) in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire and as "in un percorso acquatico" (in a water route) in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
